The short version
Shade Map gives you a well-founded estimate of sunlight, not a survey. Subscriptions renew until you cancel, and you cancel in your Apple account settings, not with us. Please don't rely on the App alone for a decision that would be expensive to get wrong.
These Terms govern your use of Shade Map ("the App"), operated by Garded LLC ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading or using the App you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. What the App does
Shade Map models a building and the trees around it, powered by measure.so technology, then calculates where the sun reaches and where shadows fall, across a day and across the year. It gives you hours of direct sun for a spot you choose.
2. Accuracy — please read this part
The App produces an estimate from a model. It is not a site survey, an engineering assessment, a solar production forecast, a property appraisal, or professional advice of any kind. In particular:
- The tree data is partial. It typically covers only the tallest trees within a radius of a property. Smaller trees, hedges, and undergrowth may not be modelled, so real shade is often greater than the App reports and hours of sun are correspondingly a best case. The App states this where it shows the figures.
- The data ages. Survey data is captured on a particular date. Trees grow, trees are felled, buildings go up and come down. A model built on older data can be out of step with what is there today.
- The model is a simplification. Buildings are represented as extruded outlines with a roof, and tree canopies as simple shapes. Real geometry is more complicated than that.
- Weather is not included. Figures describe the geometry of sun and shadow on a cloudless day. They are not a forecast and take no account of cloud, haze, or seasonal foliage.
Use the App to inform a decision, alongside your own observation of the site and, where the stakes justify it, professional advice. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for buying property, sizing or siting a solar installation, or any other decision with significant financial consequences.
3. Subscriptions and payment
Shade Map offers auto-renewing subscriptions and a one-time lifetime purchase. Current options and prices are shown in the App before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings on your device. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- The lifetime option is a single payment and is not a subscription. It grants access to the App as it exists and as it develops, for as long as we operate it.
4. Refunds
Purchases are made through Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. We cannot issue refunds directly. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something has gone wrong with the App, please tell us as well — it may be something we can fix.
5. Acceptable use
